What holds you back in life? Think of a desire that you wanted to accomplish last year but didn’t. Why didn’t you do it? I know you can come up with some great reasons. Everyone always comes up with perfectly rational reasons why they couldn’t make it happen. But you and I both know the truth. All those rational reasons are bullshit reasons. The actual thing that held you back from reaching your goal, any goal, was fear. It’s always fear. We allow ourselves to be defeated by a figment of our imagination.
Have you ever had a nightmare? Maybe you dreamed you were being killed violently. Or you were being chased by wild dogs? Whatever the subject of the nightmare, I am sure it felt absolutely real while you were dreaming it. The fear is what gives nightmares that quality of reality that makes them both disturbing and unforgettable. No matter how horrible the nightmare, upon waking up, you realize that it was just a dream and you largely forget about it. Now, nothing in a dream or nightmare is real. Nothing in the dream can actually harm you. Yet because it feels so real to the dreaming mind, we just assume that what is happening IS real. So when a giant dragon breaths fire at you, you don’t think to yourself, “wait, that is a dragon, this can’t be real. I must be dreaming!” well at least most of the time you don’t. You accept even the most ridiculous and surreal situations as reality because you feel like it is happening. Waking reality is basically the same in this regard.
You are not afraid of, what you think you are afraid of. You are afraid of what you think.
I was always looking for the fastest and easiest ways to make money. I know, get rich quick schemes don’t work, I knew that even when I was in 4 different network marketing businesses over the years. Most people didn’t get rich quick, but I thought I would be like one of the superstars who get to be millionaires in there first 2 years. I felt that if I used the law of attraction, I would be able to grow a really large team. My plan always involved cold calling because I knew cold calling was effective and cheap. Since I didn’t have the money to advertise, I figured cold calling was my best bet. The problem was, I didn’t like cold calling. I could do it, I had done it. But every time I had tried doing lots of cold calling in the past, I had stopped after the 3rd or 4th day. Why? Because I hadn’t signed someone up and I got discouraged. Basically I started talking myself out of calling. I would have someone be a little annoyed at me for calling them and I would think, that I would never be able to sign up anyone this way. I am just bothering people. You know the kind of self talk and negative fantasizing I am talking about because you know you have done it as well. If I just would have stopped attaching negative emotions to the thoughts that were arising in my mind, I would not have stopped cold calling. I would have made my goals of making 30 calls a day and I would have recruited people. But I let my fears, insecurities and negative associations defeat me. It was the fear that defeated me. Its always the fear that defeats you. Fear is the only thing that ever makes you give up.
Think of what you could accomplish if you were able to release your fear and other negative emotions. Every emotion you feel, it in reaction to a thought. You don’t actually fear what you experience. You have an experience, then you think a thought, then you feel an emotion about that thought. It happens so fast and automatically that we are fooled into believing that we feel emotion in reaction to an experience, but its always a reaction to thought. When you focus on what is right before you. When you only think of what is happening in the moment, in the now of your sensory perception, fear and all the other negative, low vibration emotions fall away. All you are left with is peace, joy and serenity a state of mind I call lucidity.
When you approach a task from the position of lucidity, of being awake and aware of the moment, you have no resistance to doing what must be done to accomplish the task. You don’t create a story of what might happen, you don’t reach for memories of the past that remind you of your current task. You stay in the moment and do what must be done to accomplish your task. Such a person is a force to be reckoned with. Not because of their incredible force of will, but because they recognize the truth and they put themselves in alignment with the forces of nature. When you go with the flow, you merge with the force that carries you along. This is the power that is available to anyone who lets go of resistance.
